Public Access Laws in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Public Records Law presumes access, but the custodian still applies specific confidentiality rules and a public-interest balancing test. A request must reasonably describe the record. It generally cannot be denied only because the requester declines to give a name or purpose. Juvenile files, victim information, medical details, protected identifiers, and sealed material can be withheld or redacted.
